Impact of foot & mouth on veterinary residue studies
During the ongoing foot & mouth crisis in the UK, YBS has managed several residue depletion and pharmacokinetic trials involving food production animals. These trials involved various species including pigs, sheep and dairy cows, some of which were underway at the start of the outbreak and were completed during the worst phase of the epidemic in the heart of the worst infected areas. The logistics of managing studies under these circumstances was obviously very challenging, with movement of study personnel and samples restricted by the UK Home Office. In addition, it was also logical to reduce movement to and from study farms to a minimum, without impacting on the quality of the study.
